Hi there! I am the co-owner and operator of The Dog Standard here in Houston, Texas. We currently operate out of two locations: Northwest Houston and Conroe.

As our business continues to grow rapidly, I’ve reached a point where I’m looking to bring on two apprentices who are serious about building a future working with dogs and animals.

A little about me:

I have 17 years of hands-on experience in the animal industry, including medical, operational, and training work. I have personally apprenticed multiple times, moving all over the country in pursuit of education and experience. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to build relationships with many incredible people in this industry — connections, mentorship, and opportunities that I’m happy to share with the right individuals.

I’ve dedicated my life to animals, but more than that, I care deeply about helping people — especially my peers in this field. I regularly open both my facility and my inbox to people looking for guidance, support, or a place to learn.

I’m also fortunate to work alongside an incredibly diverse and experienced ownership team. Between all of us, we bring backgrounds not only in dog training and animal care, but also real estate, investing, insurance/public adjusting, advanced technology, website development, operations, and business growth.

One of the biggest advantages of this apprenticeship is exposure not just to dog training itself, but to the many moving parts involved in building and sustaining a successful business from the ground up. Apprentices will have the opportunity to learn from multiple perspectives, skill sets, and professional backgrounds while working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

In exchange for helping us grow the business, we are offering:

• 3 months of hands-on apprenticeship which includes:
  • Training
  • Housing accommodations
  • Boarding for up to 2 dogs
    (more may be considered depending on fit)

Typically, our apprenticeship program costs $4,000/month, but we are opening this opportunity to two individuals who are eager to learn through real-world immersion and hard work.

Training and exposure will include all aspects of dog care and training, with a strong focus on behavior modification and rehabilitation. We also work in a wide range of disciplines including:

• Competitive obedience
• Search and Rescue (SAR)
• IGP
• PSA
• Personal protection
• Dock diving
• Service dog
• Whelping litters
• Daycare and boarding operations
• General animal husbandry and care

Apprentices will also have the opportunity to learn the business and operational side of the industry, including client communication, evaluations, marketing, scheduling, facility management, and what it actually takes to build and scale a successful dog business from the ground up.

This is an immersive, fast-paced environment that requires initiative, adaptability, emotional control, professionalism, and a willingness to learn.

Because we are offering on-site accommodations and integrating people closely into both our business and daily operations, applicants should expect to go through an interview and vetting process with all ownership members. Applicants should also be open to a background check.

At the end of the 3 months, we will evaluate both the needs of the business and the potential for long-term employment for anyone interested in continuing with us.
